 WD03  St. Peter

DESCRIPTION:

St. Peter in white and violet robes holds a key in his left hand  and a book in his right.  He stands in front of a stained glass arch similar to that behind St. Paul.  Once again, we see behind the same blue design with seven-round-pointed star in the St. Paul window.
In the predella with the same design of fleur-de-lis and mushrooms as under St. Paul is depicted a lamb with halo holding in its right-front crooked leg a crosier and white pennant bearing a gold cross.

ICONOLOGY:

Peter holds his heraldic symbol, a key, a reference to Matthew 16:18-19.  “Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I shall build my church. . .and I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven.”  He also holds a book to represent his two epistles in the New testament.

The lamb is the Agnus Gei, the Lamb of God, from Revelation. another metaphor for Jesus Christ.

The seven-pointed star once more represents the first seven churches of the New Testament.

The fleur-de-lis and mushrooms are probably just decorative.
