The History of Emmanuel Church

DESCRIPTION:

The bell tower window is set into a deep niche that brings the window to the outside of the very thick wall of the tower.  Note the similarity in design to WD 17 & 18 in the ceiling below.

The Tower Bell

In the belfry above the tower room where WD18 looks out onto Cross Street, our bell is inscribed:

ALICE B. MARTIN

PASSED INTO REST JANUARY 17TH, 1909

The bell was hung on April 10, 1909.  It was rung for the first time on April 25th, Dr and Mrs. Martin’s wedding anniversary.  The bell was cast by the McSane Bell Foundry in Glen Burnie, Maryland.  The memorial plaque for the bell is in the narthex.
